History Making Class

10/9/2008

By Phillip Lackey

Throughout the summer of 2008, our two current High Deltas, Reese Henson (AΦ 1456) and Sam Petrosian (AΦ 1460), dedicated an overwhelming amount of tireless hours to one important task: finding the best and brightest young men to become Associate Members of our Alpha Phi Zeta chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha. They began early in spring of 2008 and gained frightful momentum, never stopping until the last pin was given.

Due to Reese and Sam’s incredible commitment, our Associate Member class reached upwards of fifty men before the line had to be drawn. Many more that showed just as much potential were forced to be turned down for the time being in order to keep the class manageable. This shows just how potent our House has become over the last year, and with the completion of the renovations, this fall is expected to be one of, if not THE most exciting and momentous semesters in the history of Alpha Phi Zeta.

Reese and Sam did a spectacular job and I was able to ask a few questions recently about how they went about their search.
“We concentrated on NOT concentrating somewhere,” Reese said when asked where they focused primarily. “We wanted a diverse number of people that could better the House.”
Sam added, “We looked for smart, young men who would dedicate themselves to the House.”

And I think they managed to find just that. Despite its size, the Associate Member class of fall, 2008, have shown nothing but resilience in their duties as an Associate Member. They’ve yet to learn its meaning, but I can already see the spirit of our open motto, Vir Quisque Vir, within them.

Providing that financial commitments remain stable and that other unforeseen circumstances don’t arise, I feel this Associate Member class will be one of the strongest we’ve ever had. Congratulations to Reese Henson and Sam Petrosian. You’ve gone above and beyond your call of duty, and I feel I speak for the entire active chapter of Alpha Phi Zeta when I say thank you very much for your hard work.
