Roy Gregg is the Best!

Late spring of 2008, the Order of Omega, a Greek Leadership Honor society, hosted a dinner at the North River Yacht Club for the Greek organizations of the University of Alabama. There were several hundred people in attendance that night, representing numerous fraternities and sororities. Prior to this dinner, Leroy Townsend Gregg (AΦ 881) received a phone call, informing him that he was to receive an award for being the Top Greek Advisor at the University of Alabama.

“The award came as an absolute and total surprise,” said
Roy. “I didn’t know I was even being nominated for it.”

Roy said the night was a very humbling, not only for his own experience, but also in how the ceremony brought all the Greek organizations together in a peaceful and friendly ambiance. He explained, “I think this award is not about ‘Roy Gregg’ as much as about relationship and trust, and also how trusts can go that far. It was very flattering.”

One thing that moved Roy even more was the fact that the award itself was present to him by one of Lambda Chi’s own, Bobby Degnan (AΦ 1352). This along with the knowledge that every brother of Alpha Phi Zeta was behind him, made the experience that much more intense.”

From this commencement and ceremony came more possibilities for Roy. Greek Life, the multi-faceted organization for the betterment of Greeks on campus, offered Roy a chair on the search committee for a new assistant director. He accepted, proudly.

“Out of this relationship with Greek Life, our fraternity has become almost a model for other fraternities. Our biggest challenge in the future is how we manage success. We have to keep the members hungry for more, greater things,” stated Roy.

We have to keep reaching for the sky, to keep pushing ourselves harder, and keep our standards equal to that of a gentleman. Roy’s hard work has helped us achieve where we are today: one of the top fraternities on this campus, 100-man strong and still growing. We are men among men. We are Lambda Chi Alpha. And we have the best Greek advisor. Congratulations to Leroy Townsend Gregg, AΦ 881.
